about

Self-recorded in Oakland through an entirely analogue process, the texture of sound on Way Out In Heaven is enough to transport the listener into another state of experience. Engineered as a field recording and performed in a biting style, the instrumentation Diaz evokes bubbles up in a kinetic swarm of gutbucket vocals and waves of caustic intimacy.

From the first draw of graveyard Violin on the opener 'Gallows Tree' to the free and wandering clarinet of the title-track 'Way Out In Heaven,' Diaz shares a kinship with the hardiest and uncompromising of musical brethren. Way Out In Heaven lands Somewhere in the wild fruit tree fields of Jelly Roll Morton, Syd Barrett, and Karen Dalton.

"Soon I will turn over, over and over and over again," Diaz sing's on the album's closing track 'Jetpilot'. An open window at the end of the B-side's barreling suite.
We will turn over too.

Recorded in October 2013 in Oakland, CA.
